[CDC--most reports broken down by race and gender, but not age!]<BR/><BR/>-prevalence of having smoked a whole cigarette before age 13 years was higher among 9th grade (18.6%) than 10th grade (16.0%) [possibly indicating dnwd trend in age]<BR/><BR/>-Kentucky (along w/WV, SD) has the highest <A HREF="http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/figures/s505a1t39.gif" REL="nofollow">incidence of pre-13</A> smoking by far (1.5x median, 1.6x for women )<BR/><BR/>-Youngest average age I saw <A HREF="http://judiciary.senate.gov/oldsite/te090501f-blumenthal.htm" REL="nofollow">cited</A>: "No wonder that the average age children start smoking in Connecticut is 11 years old."<BR/><BR/>-Why <A HREF="http://meeting.jco.org/cgi/content/abstract/23/16_suppl/1029" REL="nofollow">they</A> only mention (what I assume are) outliers and not the averages is beyond me: "The youngest age to start smoking [in rural KY] was 4 years."Emy L.
