Lots of appointments. Waiting around on more appointments. Being forced to take medication is a huge struggle for me and exactly why I didn't want to reach out for help in the first place. Going on FMLA leave now so I don't get penalized for feeling bad on medication and not sleeping because they won't let me take what puts me to sleep any more. It'll take weeks to get a diagnosis and it's possible I won't have that in time anyway. I feel like such a needy problem doing it, but I'm stuck now.

I definitely have issues asking for help. My parents didn't deal with being asked for help well--I'd GET my help, but they'd yell at me the entire time and I'd wished I'd never been forced to ask. And I've definitely noticed per my work that if you just keep on needing help and struggling and struggling, they get madder and madder at you. There is only so much help you can ask for before it's socially unacceptable to keep needing it, in my experience. jenmoonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02647726303564119010noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27072566.post-52618110740964252522023-10-25T13:57:47.066-05:002023-10-25T13:57:47.066-05:00Loved your insight on process vs. content! The author's reflection on Calvin and Hobbes and their imaginative world resonates with many parents who have grappled with balancing screen time and creative play for their children. The comparison between two-dimensional reading and the multi-dimensional experience of television is thought-provoking. It highlights the depth and richness that books can offer in stimulating the imagination and engaging the mind. The author's belief that reading is more real, like the character Hobbes, speaks to the power of literature in shaping our perceptions and enriching our inner worlds. Read Gay New York where the authors make it clear that historically, introducing children to sex in a very loving, paternal fashion, had been advanced in the highest of political circles (not exactly sure of that, read the book 25 years ago). Still, it wasn't taboo. Science has the investigatory 'power' to destigmatize 'pathological' behavior, but a proposed study must first pass an Institutional Review Board screening the research for harm to subject. My guess is that for cannibalism the harm might be thought to outweigh the good, but we live in a world where food is bountiful. Thanks for the comment! Have you noticed a drift, or watering down when it comes to some of these issues? Culture as a whole (from my perspective) continues to drift away from traditional values...(ever heard of the Overton window) Here's a link to something I just pulled off the Internet https://en.psychologyinstructor.com/the-overton-window/

Just curious as to your thoughts. The crazy...Wow, that's a real overstep, I feel. The crazy part is that in the moment we're too shocked to say, um, Why? The more we process these things out the less they hurt, is the truth. It feels like acute trauma it's so bad, but is probably more of an injury to the ego (narcissistic injury). We don't have to be narcissistic, that's not what that means; more like a part of us that just wants to be appreciated for being ourselves isn't and we need that, don't get it, get something painful instead. Anyway, thanks for the comment DM!
therapydochttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05088184676439578876noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27072566.post-73588797079664713132022-10-23T17:38:35.939-05:002022-10-23T17:38:35.939-05:00Talk about timely. We were @ a wedding reception yesterday (4 couples/ all of my siblings and their mates) We were sitting around the table @ the reception, enjoying this rare, time when just the 8 of us were together, me enjoying the fact that the 4 of us kids really do get along...my youngest sister, made a comment about the fact that she and another sister were both on anxiety meds...then she looks @ me and says, you should be on them too. (she's an RN so she thinks she knows everything) I am just giving you the short version here, but it ticked me off. My wife of 42 years, said later, she didn't get why she said it either. While I am not an officially trained counselor, I do know myself. I do not struggle w/ anxiety, or depression...yes, I may be wound a little tight,in that I enjoy life, and may appear slightly manic to someone who doesn't know me very well. Her words cut me like a knife, I felt judged, and the fact she had a couple of beers in her, also probably didn't help. She's currently in treatment for breast cancer, so I'm not going to revisit last nights interaction, but it did not sit well with me. woke up this morning still chewing on it. I have been able to shake it off after processing this with a couple of people who know me much better than my sister.DMhttp://hearttoheart4.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27072566.post-47832009426655939752022-10-02T08:34:03.925-05:002022-10-02T08:34:03.925-05:00I love that you're still game! And almost all recent evidence is that said faction hails precisely from those calling for so-called "racial justice", "antifascism", and the like. Those same people also support those who promote, and perpetrate, lynchings and book-burnings against our people on this side of the globe, as well.
As to those original lynching factions from the South (or not) - I honestly suspect that their numbers and actions have not appreciably grown since those years of your youth that "broke you", and most of what we hear now is media hype to both increase ratings and tar political opponents (and whitewash political champions, if you'll forgive the term).
Ultimately, what concerns me is that resentment of our people seems like something that both extreme sides of the divide in the US seem to have a consensus on. And with such rising tensions, I worry about that most. It is easy to imagine political backlash against our people from either side, or both simultaneously, at any point.Shlomo Gorenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12694065288077240002noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27072566.post-3810127950445409292021-01-22T01:11:09.686-06:002021-01-22T01:11:09.686-06:00Thank you for your post.
