Dream Production 101

Anonymous asked if my spin on dreams, that everything and everyone in a dream is the dreamer, is research based.

Not that I know of, and I don't know who first presented it to me this way. But try to think of it as follows.

A dream is ALL yours. You're the only one "creating" the dream. It comes from your head, or perhaps your dinner.

Steven Speilberg did not direct it, neither did George Lucas, even if ET or C3PO make star appearances as themselves!

So every movement of every actor, every word that is spoken, every nuance is conceived, directed, and produced by the dreamer. It's a DreamWorks Production, so to speak.

We are our art in that way. Everything I write, for example, is a reflection of me, the way I feel, think, or behave.

So how can the therapist in your dream be anyone but you?

The real art of therapy is exactly that, too.

In my case, I am fairly sure the dreams emanate from the embedded chip placed there by the aliens during my abduction. My dreams now are most likely one of the most popular reality shows on the planet Inebrius Nine.

OMG I didn't realize that Inebrius Nine was a reality show!

I've never read that anyone else experiences this, but I didn't think anyone else had dreams with odors and tactile sensations either...

When my dreams are particularly vivid (as when I'm dealing with something BIG--stress, divorce, finals, dirty house, whatever seems big) I will have the dream multiple times in the same night. As the re-runs progress I find myself taking different roles, trying this or that and seeing what happens; or just watching from that new character's vantage point.

Stranger than that even is when it happens in a sex dream.

Now I really need therapy, huh?

NFH, everyone needs a little.

So if I'm worried about being pregnant (which I don't want to be right now) and then I have a dream about effectively being pregnant is this a predictive dream? or just my brain playing games with me?

It's you fearing being pregnant. The other thing to remember with dreams is that they represent either fears or wishes.

The hint to that is the emotion you have when you wake up, or one that you associate with the dream.
